I visited a couple of the award winning sites that I had not been to before. Many of the sites we have already used are listed in the Web 2.0 awards.
Lulu was an interesting site. I liked the fact that one can self-publish through this site. A friend of mine was able to get a book published using Lulu and is making his book available not only through that site, but also through Borders and Amazon. The site is easy to use and easy to browse. Like many of the book related sites, it could be useful for networking with authors and finding books that are unusual in content, but may be interesting additions to library collections.
Ning is a good site for networking with folks with similar interests. It reminds me of Meetup.com except without the meetup. The format reminds me of MySpace, but with a group of folks. Not a bad option for networking for specific interests. Libraries could use it to organize book clubs, author fan clubs, or genre fan clubs. It would be an innovative way to do outreach and find out what users are "out there."
